Here at Leysin American School, there really is something for everyone in our activities program! Our community aims to create an inclusive environment where students can try new things and push themselves out of their comfort zones. In doing so, students develop bonds with friends, gain new experiences, and create memories in our beautiful Alpine landscape.
At LAS, students are required to participate in at least one physical and one creative or service-oriented activity each week. Fortunately, our range of engaging activities ensures that students meet this requirement with little effort! We place immense value on the pursuit of diverse interests and the development of skills beyond the confines of our academic curriculum, and this form of experiential learning allows students to see the benefits of their extracurricular pursuits in lots of different areas of their lives. This method of holistic learning encourages personal growth, resilience, and teamwork abilities that are invaluable for our students’ futures!
Students have a wide range of activities to choose from at LAS. Our sports teams are incredibly varied, including volleyball, football, cross country, golf, swimming, and ski racing. Our active extracurriculars are also a lot of fun and include yoga, dog walking, stand-up paddle boarding, and mountaineering. In addition to these active options, students can choose from various creative and service-oriented activities such as rock school, dance, Dungeons and Dragons, and theatre. There is plenty to captivate our community, and we are always thrilled by the enthusiasm and courage of our students when trying a variety of activities.
For students uncertain about which clubs to join, LAS provides a wide range of opportunities to try various activities and discover their interests. This past year, we introduced exciting new activities like robotics and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with students eagerly immersing themselves in these fun new ways to learn. Furthermore, we celebrated a milestone last semester with a record-breaking 200 student tryouts for sports teams!
