Live Life, Love Learning
COLOGNE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOl, a state-recognized independent and fully accredited IB World School, is accompanying around 475 students from 1st grade to graduation, in the current school year. On the international campus in the north of Cologne, students in grades 1 to 5 learn German/English bilingually according to our unique combination of the North Rhine-Westphalian curriculum and the international IB-PYP curriculum. Our bilingual International Secondary School supports students to acquire the International Baccalaureate
(IB).
The learning opportunities of the innovative educational concept with a holistic approach focus on the individual development of the students. In addition, the school offers a flexible full-day program with early morning care starting at 7:30 a.m. and a wide range of after-school activities until 5:30 pm.
The small and modern boarding school, which is located on the school’s campus, offers students from the age of 15 the opportunity to live in Cologne without family, in order to successfully complete their school career.
In the Fall, 2022, COLOGNE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL moved to the new school campus at Butzweilerhof, a rapidly developing office and residential district close to the city with convenient transport links. The new 19,000 m² campus is sustainable and energy efficient, saving up to 30 tons of CO2 per year. A spacious courtyard with trees and “green areas” for spending quality time outdoors surrounds the school building.
PEDAGOGICAL CONCEPT
COLOGNE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL supports children and young people individually according to their talents from first grade to graduation. On the international campus, students benefit from practical, student-centred learning and develop 21st-century core competencies and values: empathy, critical thinking, independence and responsibility. With confidence to act in at least two languages – German and English – students are well equipped to tackle tomorrow’s challenges and positively shape the future.
To support the individual approach to learning, the school emphasises a low teacher-to-student ratio. In grades 1 to 5, there is one teacher for every 12 students 1: 12, in grades 6 to 10 it is approximately 1 : 18, and in grades 11 and 12 it is 1:12.
DAILY PLAN
The COLOGNE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL offers a full day program that provides care from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. if desired or necessary. Mandatory school hours are between 8:00 am and 3:30 pm, or 5:00 pm in grades 11 and 12. As part of early supervision (“Early Arrival”) children are able to come to school from 7:30 a.m. and are cared for in a friendly atmosphere until the start of classes. In grades 1 to 5, students are provided with a second breakfast and a hot lunch upon request. From grade 6 onwards, a hot lunch is offered; options for self-catering in the morning and afternoon are provided by the school.
