Enhancing Our ECA Program for Maximum Engagement

The Extracurricular Activities (ECA) program was successfully launched last week. This year has been very exciting for us as we’ve implemented several positive changes to enhance our ECA program. Our goals include providing an equitable and easy sign-up process, increasing the number of activities available to the whole school, and expanding the total number of seats for sign-ups.

New sign-up platform

The new sign-up platform offers a stress-free, preference-based system that allows parents and students to carefully browse our activity list before selecting their top three preferences for each day of the week.

Increasing Number and Engagement

Currently, we have over 150 activities planned for this year, and we anticipate this number will continue to grow as we encourage and support our Secondary students to propose new activities based on their interests. In our first season with the new program, we’ve successfully engaged more than 80% of our students from KG to Grade 12 in ECAs.

New additions

Notable additions like “Intro to Ballet” and “Boxing for Fitness” have quickly become favorites among our elementary students. In the secondary school, we’ve placed a greater emphasis on specialization and increased contact time for many of our competitive and performance-based activities. We’ve also supported student-led initiatives, such as the newly proposed Photography Club.

Enhancing Vertical Alignment

In our program, we follow this structured approach:

  • Elementary School: Focus on exploring a variety of activities, encouraging students to rotate through different options each season.
  • Middle School: Students continue to explore various activities while spending more time on selected ones.
  • High School: Emphasis is placed on specialization, allowing students to develop and hone their skills in chosen areas.

We are excited about these enhancements and eagerly anticipate another year filled with engaging opportunities and enriching experiences for our students.
