Education extends beyond academics at The British International School Abu Dhabi. It’s about nurturing compassionate and socially responsible individuals. This Ramadan, our students and families have truly embodied the values of generosity, reflection, and community, making a meaningful impact through acts of kindness and service.
Ydoom Al Kheir – A Community of Giving
One of the most inspiring aspects of this Ramadan has been the incredible generosity displayed through our Ydoom Al Kheir donation drive. Families came together to provide essential food supplies for those in need, supporting both the Red Crescent and our dedicated ancillary staff. This collective effort highlighted the strength of our school community and the spirit of giving that defines us.
Ramadan Assemblies: Learning Through Reflection
Ramadan is a time for self-discipline, reflection, and kindness. Led by our UAE Student Leaders and Ms. Mai Mahmoud, our Ramadan assemblies encouraged students to explore the deeper meaning of the holy month. Discussions on fasting, empathy, and the power of small, thoughtful actions served as a reminder that even the simplest gestures can make a lasting impact.
The 30-Day Service Challenge
One of the most rewarding initiatives this Ramadan was our 30-Day Service Challenge, where students committed to completing daily acts of kindness. Whether helping a sibling with homework or showing appreciation to a member of staff, these small gestures created a ripple effect of positivity. Along the way, students earned House Points and contributed to their BISAD Diplomas, reinforcing that true leadership begins with service.
Dakakin Ramadan: A Marketplace of Togetherness
Ramadan is also about unity, and our Dakakin Ramadan market provided a wonderful opportunity for families, students, and staff to come together, celebrate traditions, and embrace the spirit of the season. The vibrant atmosphere reflected the joy of community and the importance of shared experiences.
A Community Iftar & Honouring an Unsung Hero
Our Community Iftar on March 13th was a beautiful evening of togetherness, where families and staff shared a meal and strengthened their bonds. A standout moment of the night was honouring our Unsung Hero, Security Guard Ibrahim, whose kindness and dedication to our school inspire us all. His recognition was a heartfelt reminder that small acts of service can have a profound impact.
Service Learning Fridays: Giving Back Beyond the Classroom
Every Friday throughout Ramadan, our students stepped beyond the classroom to engage in service-learning projects—from beach clean-ups and charity runs to literacy initiatives and mentoring younger students. These experiences reinforced a vital lesson: leadership is about action and using one’s abilities to uplift others.
At BIS Abu Dhabi, Ramadan is more than just a time of fasting; it is a time of giving, learning, and strengthening the bonds within our community. We are incredibly proud of our students, staff, and families for embracing the true spirit of this special month. Their kindness, generosity, and commitment to service reflect the very best of who we are.
