A Journey of Resilience: Jennifer is awarded Duke of Edinburgh success after retaking A levels with Greene’s.

“After being unhappy with my A Level grades last year, I decided that retaking was the best path for me, as it would allow me to prove to myself that I was capable of achieving better results.

One thing which makes Greene’s different from any other educational experience is the amazing tutors. They all want what is best for you, and will go out of their way to help and support you. My tutors enabled me to focus on the areas of the syllabus that I found to be the most challenging, whilst also making the tutorials engaging, as we didn’t have new material to cover. This led to me feeling more confident for my exams this year. My experience at Greene’s wouldn’t have been the same without the rest of my cohort, as we were able to support each other in our own individual retake journeys, and there was a mutual feeling of perseverance. I found the tutorial method to be particularly beneficial, as it meant that we could really focus on the areas I needed more support with.

Over the past few years, I have completed both my Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s awards. Recently, I was invited to Buckingham Palace to celebrate achieving my Gold award. I was able to explore the grounds, and listen to several inspirational speakers sharing their experiences. It was great to see how the Duke of Edinburgh’s award has had a positive impact on so many other people, including celebrities, and to hear from others what their experience of D of E was like. I found that the skills I developed during my D of E expeditions were helpful during my retake year, especially the resilience I built to persevere through a more stressful time. I also completed four other sections: volunteering, which I completed by volunteering with my local Rainbows unit; taking part in a physical activity; developing either a new or existing skill; and spending a week on a residential, which for me was the National Scout and Guide Symphony Orchestra.

Greenes has given me the confidence to speak up when needed, and new strategies to use in my current and future education. I would definitely recommend Greenes to those who are interested in the tutorial style of learning.”
