Academics
Nursery and Foundation
The Foundation Stage, designed for children aged 2-4, sets the groundwork for future learning through the UK Early Years teaching program. This program focuses on seven key Areas of Learning, including literacy and numeracy, promoting development through engaging, play-based activities.
Primary
Primary education begins in Year 1 and continues through Year 6, following the British national curriculum. In Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) and Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6), core subjects such as Literacy, Mathematics, and Science are emphasized. As students progress from the Foundation Stage, they gradually shift from play-based learning to more structured education, focusing on inquiry and independent learning. Lessons are tailored to each child’s needs, with support from dedicated tutors and teachers to help them reach their full potential.
Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) – Ages 11-14
In the first three years of Secondary School, we emphasize developing intellectual independence. Students follow a broad curriculum, including core subjects like English, Mathematics, and Science, alongside the Spanish Curriculum, which includes Lengua, Ciencias Naturales, and Ciencias Sociales. We strongly believe in nurturing students’ creative abilities through the Arts, Music, and Drama. Our Physical Education program and extracurricular activities encourage students to lead active and healthy lifestyles.
Key Stage 4 (Years 10 & 11) – Ages 14-16
Over these two years, students prepare for the internationally recognized British Cambridge IGCSE exams. The curriculum includes both British and Spanish compulsory subjects, and students may also choose from a wide variety of optional subjects, such as Art, Photography, Music, Computer Science, French, History, Geography, and Business Studies. This curriculum more than meets the requirements for ESO convalidation.
Key Stage 5 (Years 12 & 13) – Ages 16-18
Our Sixth Form offers the prestigious IB Diploma Programme, a holistic curriculum that prepares students to become creative problem solvers and independent thinkers, ready for an increasingly global society. The IB Diploma is recognized worldwide as a rigorous academic preparation, with universities often citing IB students as exceptionally well-prepared for higher education. We offer a wide range of subjects, including three languages, sciences, computer science, humanities, visual arts, and psychology. Additionally, students may study PCE subjects to complement their IB choices. For those who require a more customized path, we also offer Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level and Advanced (A) Level qualifications.
Extra curricular
The British School of Córdoba offers a vibrant extracurricular program designed to enrich our students’ education, foster personal growth, and provide a well-rounded school experience. With a wide variety of activities available both during and after school hours, students have numerous opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills, and collaborate with their peers.
During the school day, students can participate in activities like band, choir, various sports, STEM, Model United Nations (MUN), and private music lessons, providing a creative and engaging complement to their academic studies.
Our after-school offerings are just as extensive, including football, basketball, volleyball, padel, golf, tennis, gymnastics, dance, and robotics, as well as chess, which sharpens strategic thinking and problem-solving skills. These activities are designed to help students discover their passions and build confidence, resilience, and teamwork.
Whether students are interested in the arts, athletics, or academic enrichment, our extracurricular program encourages them to thrive in a supportive, dynamic environment that complements their overall learning journey at the British School of Córdoba.
Boarding
We offer two types of accommodation options based on our students’ needs: premium homestays with local host families and boarding school arrangements.
For students who choose homestays, we ensure they are placed with carefully selected and police-checked local host families. Whenever possible, students are matched with British School of Córdoba peers in the same year group. This setting allows students to continue their education within the prestigious British curriculum or IB program while being fully immersed in Spanish culture, offering them a unique dual experience that enriches both their academic and personal growth.
Alternatively, for students who prefer a more traditional boarding environment, our boarding school provides a structured and supportive residential experience, complete with access to academic resources and pastoral care. Both options are designed to support our students’ educational journey while ensuring their safety, well-being, and integration into a culturally diverse environment.
