Extra curricular

Our pupils are encouraged to set high standards, be it in the classroom, onstage or on the sports field. This ambitious, challenging approach is reflected in the exciting co-curricular activities we offer. Through a wealth of activities spanning sports, arts and other areas, learners hone their talents, explore new disciplines, and develop the skills needed to succeed in school and life beyond.

Sports

Our sports programme is carefully designed to promote physical skills, building confidence and competence in a range of activities.

Sports form part of the core curriculum, teaching learners to select and apply their abilities, tactics and compositional ideals to activities that require varying approaches and thought processes. Learners will set targets for themselves, develop perseverance, understand what it takes to succeed, and compete in teams or as individuals, while also acknowledging the success of others. We encourage them to take initiative, lead activities and improve aspects of their own performance. Ultimately, learners are empowered to make informed decisions about the importance of exercise in their lives and develop positive attitudes toward physical activity.

The sporting activities available will vary as the children move through the school. Options will include swimming, athletics, gymnastics, dance and team games such as football, netball, rounders, tennis, hockey and touch rugby.

Drama

Drama is taught by our Head of Music and Drama specialist teacher. It is a wonderful opportunity for our learners to gain confidence and self-esteem, while also extending their imagination. In addition, learners are empowered to develop key life skills, such as public speaking and communication.

Music

Our comprehensive music programme aims to develop children’s musical sensitivity and understanding. Through activities focused on the core aspects of performing, composing, listening and appraising, learners will build a broad knowledge base along with the skills to participate in a wide range of musical activities. Ivy House offers music through the core curriculum, extra-curricular activities and one-on-one lessons with talented peripatetic music teachers.

Clubs and Activities

On a typical day at Ivy House School, our pupils have a choice of at least three extracurricular activities:

Ballet, Chess, Choir, Cross Country running club, Environmental club, Gymnastics, Instrumental lessons, LAMDA Examinations, Science Club, STEAM Club, Yoga
