PRIMARY – PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME (PYP)
In Early Years and Primary, International Aravaca combines the Spanish national curriculum with the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), offering young learners a holistic education from their earliest years.
This programme focuses on the full development of the child, viewing students as inquirers both inside and outside the classroom, nurturing their natural curiosity and their ability to explore and learn from the world around them.
The IB Learner Profile promotes values such as respect for oneself, others and the environment, encouraging active engagement with the community. At International Aravaca, implementing this approach from the early stages makes a meaningful difference in shaping responsible, reflective global citizens from a young age.
In addition, the school is proud to be the only authorised PYP school in the Aravaca, Pozuelo and Majadahonda area, consolidating its position as a benchmark for quality education. The PYP stands out for developing critical thinking skills, stimulating curiosity and preparing students to solve complex problems—essential skills for future challenges.
SECONDARY – MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME (MYP)
At Secondary level, International Aravaca enriches the Spanish curriculum with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP), for which it has been an authorised school since the 2022–2023 academic year.
This programme, unique in the Pozuelo–Aravaca area, promotes the development of essential skills for students during a key stage of growth, such as critical thinking, adaptability and the ability to solve complex problems within an international and multicultural framework.
In addition, from Year 8 (2º ESO), students have the opportunity to pursue the High School Diploma (Dual Diploma) in collaboration with Académica. This programme enables students to graduate with both the Spanish Diploma and the United States High School Diploma, a qualification highly valued by universities worldwide. Since 2018, more than 72 International Aravaca students have completed this programme, positioning the school as a recognised leader in its implementation and among the top 300 schools in Spain offering this diploma.
BACCALAUREATE – DIPLOMA PROGRAMME (DP)
At Baccalaureate level, International Aravaca offers students two excellent educational pathways: the Spanish National Baccalaureate and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP). The school is the only one in the area authorised to offer the International Baccalaureate across all stages, reinforcing its role as a reference in international and personalised education.
Both pathways are enriched by international programmes and academic competitions that broaden students’ educational experience. Students also continue studying a third language, reinforcing multilingualism as one of the school’s core pillars.
Additionally, interested students may also pursue the High School Diploma (Dual Diploma) in collaboration with Académica, graduating with dual certification: the Spanish Diploma and the U.S. Diploma. This unique offer expands students’ academic and professional opportunities and reflects the school’s strong commitment to global, excellence-driven education.
TEACHING LOAD
The teaching load at each stage consists of 35 weekly periods, with enrichment across all subject areas and a higher number of teaching hours than those established by the Madrid Regional Government (CAM). This is particularly notable in English as a Foreign Language, as well as in the inclusion of school-specific subjects such as: Swimming in Early Years and Years 1 and 2 of Primary, Eco-School, Logic and Mathematics, Entrepreneurship, the PYP Exhibition in Primary, and the Personal Project and Theatre Project in Year 10 (4º Secondary).
One of the fundamental pillars of International Aravaca is its strong Social Action Plan, which actively involves students across all educational stages. In line with International Baccalaureate values, the school encourages students to engage with their community, fostering empathy, solidarity and social responsibility as an integral part of their education.
The school has established itself as a benchmark both within and beyond its community thanks to its outstanding work in community service projects. To this end, it collaborates closely with a wide range of institutions, foundations and NGOs, including: Idea Libre, Red Cross, Cáritas, Fundación Lo Que De Verdad Importa (LQDVI), Asociación Ayuda al Pueblo Sirio, Robert Kennedy Foundation, Ayúdame 3D, Fundación Aladina, Madrid Food Bank and the TELVA Solidarity Awards.
