Sport at Harrow New York

The sports program is central to the educational offering at Harrow New York.

Through participation in a wide range of sports throughout their time at the School, Harrovians reap the proven physical and mental benefits of regular exercise, while learning about teamwork and leadership, and how to conduct themselves with integrity.

Sport at Harrow New York is for all. Led by Beaks and supported by a wide range of professional coaches, there is something for everyone, whether trying a new sport for the first time, developing existing skills or training for competition at the highest level.

A host of internal competitions and an extensive program of inter-school fixtures means that boys and girls at Harrow New York have ample opportunity to compete for their House or their School, in addition to the abundant opportunities for recreational sport throughout the week.

The School’s location, surrounded by over 100 acres of playing fields and parkland and nestled on the shores of the Great South Bay, means that its students have access to an extensive and growing number of different sports.

On-site facilities offer soccer, baseball, basketball, tennis, squash, netball and lacrosse, along with a newly-updated gymnasium and a dedicated strength and conditioning suite. With ready access to nearby facilities for swimming, golf, sailing and horseback riding among others – and ambitious plans to build further on-site facilities in the coming years, including an aquatics centre and boathouse – there really is sport to suit every taste and ability.

Arts & Culture

Through the arts, students find their own voice, the confidence to express their individual creativity, and a connection with the most enduring and significant elements of our cultural past.

Whether it’s learning a musical instrument, playing in ensembles, singing in choirs or in Houses, performing in plays or discovering beauty in fine art, sculpture and ceramics, there is plenty of opportunity for creative expression at Harrow New York. Indeed, our philosophy behind the arts is for all to appreciate, most to participate and the very best to excel.

We believe that engagement with the creative and performing arts not only sets our students up for a lifetime of personal enrichment and enjoyment, but also teaches them to be more self-disciplined, attentive and better at planning and organising their busy lives.
Students who participate in them also find that this involvement has a broader, more beneficial effect on their overall academic performance. By encouraging students to develop artistically, we see them finding their own voice and the confidence to express their individual creativity, regardless of innate talent.

Overview

Combining 450 years of outstanding pedagogy at Harrow School, one of the UK’s most prestigious independent schools, with the vibrancy of New York and a stunning waterfront campus spread over more than 100 acres, Harrow New York offers a premium day and boarding school education for girls and boys in Grades 6-12.

Located on the sprawling 170-acre waterfront Bourne Mansion Estate on Long Island, Harrow New York is conveniently situated for easy access to both New York City and the Hamptons – just a train ride away. The school is nearing completion of the first phase of a comprehensive $100+ million campus renovation project.

Harrow New York inherits the esteemed legacy of Harrow School in the UK, a renowned institution that has educated the likes of Winston Churchill, Jawaharlal Nehru, King Hussein of Jordan, as well as more recently Benedict Cumberbatch and James Blunt.

The co-educational day and boarding school will initially open for grades 6-10, with plans to add a grade each year until it offers a full curriculum through 12th grade.

Harrow New York will provide an ambitious academic curriculum designed to foster intellectual curiosity and nurture academic excellence. Alongside its rigorous academics, the school will prioritize student well-being with exceptional personalized student support. All programs will be firmly rooted in the core Harrow Values: Courage, Honor, Humility, and Fellowship.

The School will offer a flexible program with options including day school, 5-day boarding school, and 7-day boarding school. This variety allows families to choose the program that best suits their individual needs and lifestyle. For example, the 5-day boarding school program provides students with the opportunity to experience living on campus in a caring and supportive environment while still returning home on weekends. Day students will also benefit from an extended school day program offered after academic classes conclude.

Founding cohorts at Harrow New York will have the unique distinction of shaping this historic school from the ground up. As the campus expands and higher grade levels are added, these students will have the exclusive opportunity to take on the very first student leadership roles. This unique opportunity to lead and shape the school culture will extend for several years.
