On Saturday, November 6, 2021, Lakefield College School welcomed over 1100 students from over 200 Ontario schools to compete in the 2021 OFSAA Cross Country Running Championships. Starting at 9 o’clock, students raced the four-, five-, and six-kilometre courses on our newly rejuvenated network of trails. Though crisp and cool, the sun shone down all day, providing athletes with ideal racing conditions.
The LCS community was abuzz, eager to cheer on the 10 runners from its very own XC team who qualified for the event. Congratulations to Jana ’25, Ali ’24, Gabriel ’25, Richard ’24, Nate ’24, Auston ’25, Alistair ’24, Clea ’22, Evan ’23, and Thomas ’22 for their dedication and commitment to training, which led to their ongoing success in races leading up to OFSAA. This momentous day was made even more special as the LCS Junior Boys Cross Country team qualified for the race—the first LCS team to qualify for OFSAA in over 20 years!
LCS is grateful for the individuals and organizations who made today’s event possible, Peterborough Public Health (for their ongoing support and guidance to ensure all of visitors and community members were able to participate in this event safely), LCS students and staff, CISAA, CISAA schools, COSSA schools, and the Association Convenors for Cross Country Running. The event was made even more special with the presence of the OFSAA sponsor—Nike—who installed a pop-up shop on the school grounds and sold OFSAA merchandise throughout the day.
LCS looks forward to hosting its second OFSAA event of the 2021/22 school year in February—the 2022 OFSAA Nordic Skiing Championship at LCS!
