The American curriculum is generally more flexible, with a wider choice of electives and opportunities to build an individual academic pathway. The British curriculum typically specializes students earlier, with a stronger focus on qualifications such as GCSEs and A levels.

In this video, Lauren, a teacher at Academy of Global Education, explains the key differences between the two systems, including:

  • Subject choice and specialization
  • Assessment and grading
  • GPA, GCSEs, and A levels
  • Electives and AP courses
  • University preparation
  • Flexibility for international students

Neither curriculum is universally better. The right choice depends on the student’s interests, learning style, future university plans, and where they may want to study.

At Academy of Global Education, we chose the American curriculum because its flexibility, broad range of subjects, and international focus are a good fit for students from different countries and with different academic goals.

Academy of Global Education offers an American K–12 curriculum leading to an American High School Diploma. Our program is WASC accredited, and students can also take AP (Advanced Placement) courses.
