When our daughter first joined the British School of Córdoba, the plan was simple and clearly defined: she would spend one term to gain international experience before returning to Germany to complete her secondary education with her Abitur (the German equivalent to A-Levels / a High School Diploma). What we did not anticipate was how profoundly positive this experience would be—and how quickly it would change our perspective as a family.From the very beginning, the school impressed us with its warm and welcoming atmosphere combined with high academic standards. Our daughter felt supported and challenged in equal measure, and it very quickly became clear that the teachers, boarding staff, and the school as a whole genuinely care about their students as individuals.The teaching is rigorous, well-structured, and engaging, encouraging independent thinking and confidence. Even though English had not previously been our daughter’s classroom language, she was able to keep up academically from the very beginning and continues to improve steadily.Just as importantly, the school provides excellent pastoral care. Our daughter quickly felt at home—supported not only academically, but also emotionally and socially. Although she felt quite homesick at first and may still feel overwhelmed at times, she receives outstanding support, including psychological support when needed, helping her regain balance and confidence quickly. Whenever any other challenges arise (e.g. nutrition preferences, doctor’s appointments, IB subject changes), the staff is always available for our daughter and does not hesitate to arrange individual calls with parents to identify the best possible solution and trigger the required support/actions.What is particularly impressive are the detailed monthly reports we receive, which cover each student’s strengths and achievements, personal development, social involvement, and upcoming personal goals very specifically. This information is communicated to us as parents in a very thoughtful and transparent way.The school offers a wide range of extracurricular activities that support students’ personal interests and development, helping them grow into confident, well-rounded young people. The international environment has broadened our daughter’s horizons, strengthened her independence, and given her a truly global outlook.The boarding house is located in a former holiday apartment building in Córdoba’s hills, which accommodates up to 16 students and the house parents. The very nice and comfortable apartments are usually shared by two students. This is accompanied by a common kitchen and a spacious living area, as well as a beautiful garden with a pool. A great balance of freedom, personal responsibility, trust, and a framework of core regulations creates a truly memorable boarding atmosphere and experience.Also, the sense of community at the British School of Córdoba as a whole is truly special: students are known by name, teachers are approachable, and there is a strong culture of respect, kindness, and encouragement. This is strongly shaped by the highly visible and approachable principal, Neil Murfin, who seems to know all his students personally and leads the staff with a genuine warmth and an exceptional spirit.The British School of Córdoba is not just an educational institution, but a large and caring family—to the point that we have begun to consider the school almost as part of our own family. What began as a short-term stay soon turned into an extended one, simply because our daughter was thriving. She is deeply integrated into school life, has formed meaningful friendships, and has developed a strong sense of belonging. The growth in her personality and independence in less than half a year has been remarkable and truly invaluable. Today, we find ourselves seriously considering something we never expected: that she may complete her secondary education in Córdoba rather than returning to Germany for the Abitur. This speaks volumes about the quality of education, guidance, and care the school provides. Looking back, choosing the British School of Córdoba was one of the best educational decisions we have made for our daughter. What was meant to be a temporary experience has by now already become a defining chapter in her academic and personal journey.
