Boasting a green, natural environment, the school has bright classrooms, outdoor garden areas, a 50-metre Olympic-sized swimming pool, a triple gymnasium and an all-grass sports pitch. It also offers excellent performing arts and creative facilities including a 500-seat theatre, film and science labs, libraries, Lego places and dedicated spaces for art, music and robotics.

Staff retention is great here. That's huge for an international school in our experience. Teachers stay, so they actually know your family, the kids’ siblings' names, your kid's weird habits, what works…

Looking to the future
We were drawn to the promise of “Future ready and learning” and are not disappointed. We have found that through the school, the kids have learnt to not panic when they don't know something. The tools and lessons the school have given them force them to give and receive criticism, to try again, to sit with uncertainty. That's hard. But it builds a kind of patience and courage that multiple-choice tests never will. They leave here comfortable with not knowing. That's a superpower.

The arts program here, which was important as our daughter has a great interest pulls from everywhere. Performances and exhibitions aren't just Western classics, they draw on the community's actual backgrounds. Kids see their own cultures reflected on stage. And they see other cultures too, up close. The arts become a living conversation, not just a showcase. Incredibly multicultural theatrical experience.

Staff retention is great here. That's huge for an international school in our experience. Teachers stay, so they actually know your family, the kids’ siblings' names, your kid's weird habits, what works and what doesn't. It's not personalisation through an app. It's just people knowing people. In a city as big as Shanghai, that's rare and precious.

Early years
Walk into an Early Years classroom here, and you won't see plastic toys. You'll see real things, wood, fabric, interesting objects. It's called the Curiosity Approach, and it basically trains little kids to ask "why?" instead of just waiting for the next activity. That starts at age two. We really feel it has a great benefit to other early years approaches, and are so excited to see how our child continues to enjoy it.

Tech in School
So they're the first K-12 school globally to use PeerScholar, and the first in China to use CenturyTech for AI-driven learning. Fancy words, but what its actually meant for our kids is to learn how to give useful feedback, and teachers actually personalise instruction. It's not tech for tech's sake. It changes how they think and really helps them, which we feel has made the biggest difference.
