Bedford School is a leading independent boarding and day school for boys aged 7 – 18 years, located in a beautiful 50-acre estate in the heart of Bedford, a historic town less than 40 minutes by train from London and within easy reach of Heathrow Airport.
The school’s success is demonstrated by a long history of impressive exam results at GCSE, A-Level and in the International Baccalaureate Diploma. In 2020, an impressive 87% of Bedford School boys went on to either Russell Group or Times Top 30 universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
For boarders (age 9 – 18), the school’s boarding houses offer a real ‘home from home’, providing a sense of belonging to every boy. Within the boarding houses, each boy’s Housemaster and personal Tutor work to ensure his life at Bedford is a happy and successful one.
Throughout their journey at Bedford School, boys come to flourish: academically, as sportsmen, as artists and above all as themselves, developing confidence in who they are. And when the time comes, they leave as good men, secure in their values, happy and able to hold their own in any company.
The Bedford Curriculum, extending well beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum, is structured to provide a balanced and varied choice of subjects, which will cater towards the individual boy’s strengths. We challenge our boys to develop their intellectual curiosity, to ask questions, to broaden their knowledge and intellect, and to be aware of the world beyond the school. We support them in their endeavour to develop informed opinions and independent minds; whilst also equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to realise their personal ambitions and aspirations. Each boy is encouraged to add value to their academic credentials during their time with us and, to this end, we consistently encourage them to exceed their expectations.
The arts thrive at Bedford School and boys can get involved in a full and varied programme of Music, Art and Drama. In sport, boys are encouraged to take an interest, whatever their level of ability, for the self-motivation, camaraderie and teamwork it encourages and develops. Boys can also take part in a wide range of creative, sporting, academic and general interest extracurricular clubs and activities. We actively encourage all boys to participate in a new activity each term when they join us.
