Education at Brockwood is not limited to the accumulation of knowledge, but is concerned with helping young people understand themselves, others, and the world in which they live.

At the heart of the school is a learning environment without punishment or reward, without grades, comparison, competition, or prizes. Instead, students are supported to discover a genuine interest in learning. Each student is assisted in creating their own programme of studies that challenges and extends them, while encouraging initiative, responsibility, and care in their work.

Students are encouraged to take on projects, develop portfolios, and explore subjects deeply. They are given the space and freedom to make mistakes, and these are seen as part of learning rather than something to be judged. The aim is to nurture the spark in each student so that they can discover their own talents and what they truly care about.

Examinations are supported for those who wish to pursue them, but the school recognises that there is far more to life than acquiring knowledge and being tested on it. Academic knowledge is always limited and measurable, while life itself is vast and immeasurable.

In an atmosphere of friendly equality between students and staff, Brockwood offers a truly alternative and holistic education that encourages awareness, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of the whole of life.

Founded in 1969 by philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti, Brockwood Park School is an international boarding school for ages 14-19 in the Hampshire countryside, offering holistic (alternative) education to a community of about 60 students.

At Brockwood Park School, academic learning is approached as an active and responsible process in which students take ownership of their education. The school provides a wide range of classes, opportunities, and resources, while teachers offer careful support, attention, and challenge. Within this environment, students are encouraged to take initiative, prioritise their learning objectives, and approach their work with focus, rigour, and sustained attention.
The aim is to cultivate a form of excellence that is not driven by competition or comparison, but by genuine engagement and care for learning. Through this emphasis on independent learning, students develop the intellectual discipline and curiosity that enable them to thrive academically, particularly if they choose to pursue further studies or examinations.
Academic life at Brockwood is closely connected with the wider experience of living and learning within an international community of students and staff. Dialogue, inquiry, and reflection are integral to the learning process, encouraging students to question assumptions and understand the influences that shape their thinking.
This approach helps students become confident and thoughtful individuals who are comfortable exploring their own ideas, feelings, and perspectives. As a result, they develop emotional resilience, sensitivity, and the ability to relate to others with understanding, qualities that support both their academic development and their lives beyond school.

Life at Brockwood extends beyond the classroom and includes a wide range of extra-curricular activities that support the development of the whole human being. Students are encouraged to explore creative, practical and physical interests through activities such as music, art, drama, dance, sports, yoga and other clubs and workshops organised throughout the year. These activities offer space for collaboration, creativity and enjoyment, while strengthening relationships within the school community.
The school’s location in the South Downs National Park also provides many opportunities for outdoor and nature-based learning. Within Brockwood’s 40 acres of parkland and gardens, students take part in practical human ecology activities such as gardening, caring for plants and the grounds, and developing a deeper awareness of the natural environment. Walks in the surrounding countryside and outdoor activities are also a regular part of school life.
All these activities are closely connected with the sense of community at Brockwood. Students share certain responsibilities that contribute to the care of the school environment and to living together considerately. In this way, activities beyond the classroom become another way of learning about cooperation, responsibility and relationship.

Independent Schools Association (ISA) accredited member; Independent Schools Council (ISC); Boarding Schools' Association (BSA)
The enrollment process at Brockwood Park School is designed to help both the family and the school understand whether the student would benefit from, and contribute to, the school’s unique learning environment.
