IB and Experiential Education at LAS

At Leysin American School, we aim to provide an education with an impact in everything we do. One of the ways we have committed to upholding this value is through individualized education and experiential programs.

We offer our students over 340 class sections consisting of a mix of IB, non-IB, AP, and elective offerings. Having access to such an extensive list of classes means that our students can engage in both core and exploratory class options, creating a customized schedule that fits their interests and aspirations.

IB Diploma students engage in deep, concentrated learning through engagement with the International Baccalaureate curriculum; meanwhile, AP classes allow students to intensively pursue particular subject areas and earn university credit for their demonstration of knowledge. Both of these class tracks are a great way for students to deep dive into areas of interest and position themselves for success in their post-secondary studies.

Curiosity, determination, communication, and teamwork are all skills important to success in both IB and AP programs. We help students to cultivate these abilities and augment their learning in the classroom through opportunities for experiential learning. Experiential learning at LAS occurs across a variety of fields: entrepreneurship, leadership, outdoor education, environmental initiatives, travel, and more. Whether a student is interested in gaining the practical know-how to start up their own business, learning firsthand about cultures around the world that are different from their own, or finding out more about alpinism and environmental stewardship, we have a program in place for them.

Throughout their journey with us, LAS students benefit from personalized attention, a challenging, exciting curriculum, and opportunities to heighten their learning outside of the classroom in ways that are interesting and personally fulfilling. It is our hope that they will take these experiences and use them to become innovative, compassionate, and responsible citizens of the world—as students, as graduates, and as alum.
