St. Gilgen International School is a co-educational day and boarding school for children between the ages of 9 and 18. We are located 35 minutes from Salzburg airport in the village of St. Gilgen in the Austrian Alps. St. Gilgen sits on the edge of Lake Wolfgang, surrounded by mountains, in one of the most stunning outdoor sports arena in the world. We offer an international school curriculum leading to the highly regarded International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in the final two years. All classes are taught in English and our school leavers study at the best universities world wide.We understand how important it is to give students the best chance for a bright future. That is why for us, education means inspiring a life long love of learning and love of living; ensuring that every student thrives on his or her individual ‘path of excellence’. To achieve this, we focus all of our energy on three pillars, and undertake never to compromise on delivering each of these to the very best of our ability for your child. Our three pillars and promises are:· Excellence in Care· Excellence in Education· Excellence in OpportunitiesThe first and most important thing for us as a boarding school is that our students are safe, happy and cared for. This is the foundation upon which all successful education is built on. We understand the trust that is placed in us by parents and we take this important responsibility very seriously. Our safe and charming small village and our dedicated pastoral and boarding teams ensure that we know all of our students and have appropriate boundaries that will protect them whilst also giving them the freedom to grow and explore. We welcome students from all around the globe and celebrate our cultural diversity, always ensuring that we have a truly balanced international student body.Above all, a St. Gilgen International School education means that your children will be in the best environment, with the best and most dedicated teachers, to thrive academically and become confident learners and critical thinkers. We find and nurture the strengths and talents of each of our students. Your children will be on the journey of a lifetime, and they will grow exponentially as they experience the outstanding range of opportunities available to them.To make this possible, we insist on small class sizes (average of 6-12 students per teacher) where students receive individual and personal attention in each and every lesson. We offer an unparalleled range of opportunities in the arts, adventurous mountaineering expeditions, sports training and overseas trips. And, most importantly, because we are a parent owned foundation and not-for-profit, all funds return directly back to the students in order to ensure that they receive the very best international education imaginable. We also offer outstanding extra support and an evening study programme with subject tutorials and extra support sessions delivered by our dedicated teaching staff every evening.

Sankt Gilgen International School can be described as my "love at first sight". Having joined the community in 2012, my dreams of becoming a professional soccer player have always been supported by the school through training from a professional coach of the soccer team "RedBull Salzburg FC". Yet, it was the academical aspect that I have gotten introduced to and started to appreciate the longer I studied at St Gilgen. What was really outstanding (and unique to me) was the understanding and supporting of solving mathematical problems MY way. The teacher has introduced me other ways, that could speed up the process, yet he respected my decision of what works best for me. Fascinated of the various choices of activities, my sports career changed through my academic years, and eventually I became a "youth Ironman". During my last year in this school, the year of graduation, I came to the extreme conclusion that I want to take part in an Ironman to balance my academic and sports life. The teachers were suspicious at the beginning, as my training load increased, yet my academic grades followed with improvement. Having been able to write my extended essay, my TOK essay and my TOK presentation about my sport, with remarkable grades for it, has made my life much easier. Eventually, the teachers used metaphors of sport examples for me to understand specific terms in Global Politics and Economics better and with better context. Overall, St Gilgen was the stepping stone to my sports and academic career, and I thank every teacher for having gone through my highs and lows during the school time - and I hope that everyone ever gets to feel as supported, grateful and appreciated as I do and did during my high school years!
This International School greatly, and individually supports both, the academic and personal development of students St. Gilgen International School (StGIS) is a perfect place for students to discover their own strengths and develop them. This can be said for the academic as well as for the personal development. There is a focus on making girls strong personalities in order to support them in breaking through glass ceilings, which they will inevitably hit. In contrast to other international schools, StGIS is small with less than 200 students. Teaching: Teaching is outstanding. The ratio of students per teacher is something like 5:1. The teachers are very motivated and enthusiastic about what they do. They manage to inspire the students. Staff: The staff is very caring and gives us parents the reassurance that we really don't have to worry about our kids' well-being. It is very easy to keep contact with the staff via e-mail (Administration staff, Teachers), message service such as WhatsApp or a quick phone call (Mentor Tutors and Boarding House Parents). Campus and Facilities: The Campus is NOT walled off, but rather integrated with the village. Students walk through the picturesque village of St. Gilgen when they go from the Boarding Houses to the School buildings, and again when they go for lunch. The StGIS has contracted 2 (very good) restaurants in the village for lunch. They also deliver dinner to the Boarding Houses. All facilities are new or historic buildings recently restored to the most modern standards. The class rooms are equipped with the latest technology. The Boarding Houses are transformed hotels, providing comfort and cosiness on an unexpectedly high level. Safety and security of the students is not an issue at all. Extracurricular Activities: The offering is vast in Arts&Culture, as well as Sports - in such a way, that it trains the students in taking decisions, because there is only one afternoon per day... And still, if students would like to perform an activity which is not offered, the School is open for a discussion to introduce this activity.
St. Gilgen International Shcool has been a magical fit for our two boys (grades 5 & 9) and for our entire family. It is an exceptional school located in one of the most beautiful parts of the world. Our boys have absolutely thrived in the unique learning environment which extends well beyond the traditional classroom into the town of St. Gilgen and the entire Salzkammergut region. Teaching: We think the quality of the teaching is fantastic. The school takes every opportunity to bring the children out into the world around them to challenge them in experiential learning methods. The focus on outdoor education is like nothing we have ever seen. It is an amazing complement to traditional classroom education and brings the quality of education to an entirely different level. Staff: This is a school where the teachers and staff truly care about their jobs and their students. They care to see these kids grow into the best versions of themselves. Our boys feel safe and valued because they know that the teachers and staff expect and enforce respectable behavior and the highest of standards in all aspects of life. These expectations align perfectly with our own family values and expectations. Campus: Our boys feel inspired and challenged by the world-class facilities and academic curriculum. How many school are located on a stunningly beautiful lake with a full array of water activities? How many schools are so uniquely integrated into their town to provide a safe environment for the children to explore and develop their independence? Our boys feel their worlds expanding by the broad mix of cultures, backgrounds, and languages as they develop into citizens of the world. Each student at StGIS brings a unique perspective of the world that is celebrated and embraced by the entire St. Gilgen community. We are delighted to be a part of this community. Extracurricular: The school offers a broad range of Extracurricular actives in the following categories – Creativity, Service, Sport, and Outdoor. All categories are of high quality, but for our family, the emphasis on Outdoor Education and the exposure to the natural environment to push their physical and mental capacities is something that makes this school stand head and shoulders above the rest. Weekends are filled with outdoor activities and excursions in one of the most stunning natural environments. This approach is a refreshing contrast to children constantly occupying their free time with computer screens and lack of physical activity. The breadth and variety of activities combined with the quality of equipment and instruction has impressed us beyond our expectations.
