Description

Our Haimhausen campus is situated in a beautiful park-like setting with fields and woods surrounding the school premises. The focal point of this campus is the Haimhausen Schloss, a centuries old castle, which creates a very unique learning environment. Our BIS city campus offers primary students a central Munich location and access to all the cultural offerings the city has to offer, as well as the continued educational excellence BIS is renown for.

Our “Community of Learners” is committed to enthusiastically working together to ensure a community of educational excellence. We are fortunate in having a team of outstanding teachers from many cultural backgrounds united in our goal of making BIS a place where students receive the best possible education we can give them. We are a school where the creation of a strong professional culture is a priority. Good pedagogy matters to us, supported by appropriate professional development and a sharing of good practice.

We set ourselves high standards as faculty and staff, and expect the same from our students. We also understand that, while academic rigour is important, a child also needs a broad and balanced education in a secure and caring environment. Through co-curricular and community service opportunities, we are always looking to enrich the experience of our students, understanding our responsibility to prepare them to be effective citizens in tomorrow’s world.

We offer the security of established structure and curriculum, combined with contemporary, dynamic and innovative educational practice focused on the development of the whole child. Integral to this approach to learning and teaching is our use of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP), Middle Years Programme (IBMYP), the Diploma Programme (IBDP) and the Career-related Programme (IBCP). In support of our school’s vision of developing motivated, responsible life-long learners who will make a difference to our world, our educational philosophies and resultant programmes of learning and teaching have a clear focus on your child’s future. We want to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, confident and caring young people who will help create a better and more peaceful world through inter-cultural understanding and respect, while also developing the skills, attitudes and skills necessary to lead happy, fulfilling and successful lives.

The Mother Tongue Programme at BIS supports the fundamental concepts of holistic learning, intercultural awareness and communication. Maintaining and developing literacy skills in mother tongue (MT) is not always easy when a family moves away from its own country of origin. Often children no longer have the option to attend to a school with their MT as the language of Instruction. While learning at BIS occur primarily in English, students have the opportunity to maintain and further develop their MT. We believe that maintaining and developing MT literacy accelerates the acquisition of English, enhances academic achievement, builds self esteem and helps the student appreciate and identify with his/her heritage.
