Really understanding the brain at KIS International School

Really understanding the brain, and ‘How We Learn’, requires a mighty jump from the abstract as it isn’t something tangible we can inquire into, or learn much about, beyond looking at images, videos, and writings on the subject.
Our Grade 5 students, with Mr. Nicholas learn about the parts of the brain, their functions, how learning happens, and strategies we can learn and apply to enhance our brains and learning experience. To connect the abstract understanding of the form, function and abilities/skills produced from and within the brain, students engage here with a concrete example of a pig brain.
On the morning of the dissection, students imagined and took-on the roles of medical scientists, along with the associated ‘Attitudes’ of appreciation and respect for the engagement and for the biological matter they would be dealing with.
