De American International School of Bucharest (AISB) is een internationale, gemengde dagschool die een onderwijsprogramma aanbiedt van de vroege kinderjaren (twee- tot vijfjarigen) tot en met groep 12 voor leerlingen van alle nationaliteiten. De school werd opgericht in 1962. Het schooljaar bestaat uit twee semesters, van eind augustus tot half juni. Curriculum: De school biedt een internationaal Engelstalig curriculum, afgestemd op de behoeften van de internationale studentengemeenschap in Boekarest. De school biedt het International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma aan in de klassen 11 en 12, het IB Middle Years Program (MYP) in de klassen 6 tot en met 10 en het IB Primary Years Program (PYP) in de klassen EC3 tot en met 5. In het ELC putten we pedagogische inspiratie uit de praktijken van Reggio Emilia en leggen we verbanden tussen deze Reggio-praktijken en het PYP (IBO).
\nSpecialisten in kunst, drama, film, lichamelijke opvoeding, muziek (orkest\/koor), design, computers, Spaans en Frans behandelen leerlingen op verschillende niveaus.<\/p>\n
Om een duurzaam en kwalitatief programma voor leerondersteuning te bieden, neemt de school een beperkt aantal leerlingen aan met lichte tot matige leer- en sociaal-emotionele\/gedragsmatige behoeften. Onze specialisten in leerondersteuning werken samen met leerkrachten om ervoor te zorgen dat leerlingen gedifferentieerd onderwijs, aanpassingen in de klas en\/of bij toetsen, een aangepast curriculum (indien nodig) krijgen en vooruitgang boeken in het behalen van hun individuele leerdoelen. Indien leerlingen doorlopende 1-op-1-ondersteuning nodig hebben, kan een Learning Intervention Focused Tutor (LIFT) worden aangesteld op kosten van het gezin. Alle leerlingen binnen het programma voor leerondersteuning hebben een individueel leerplan (ILP) waarin hun dienstverleningsprogramma is vastgelegd. De school is geaccrediteerd door de New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) en is door de International Baccalaureate Organization (IB) geautoriseerd om de IB Primary Years, Middle Years en Diploma Programs aan te bieden.<\/p>\n
Faciliteiten: De school is gevestigd op een terrein van 10 hectare ten noorden van het stadscentrum en opende haar deuren in het schooljaar 2001-2002 voor kinderen van de vroege kinderjaren (drie tot vier jaar) tot en met groep 12. De school beschikt over ruime klaslokalen, drie bibliotheek-\/mediacentra, drie sportcentra\/gymzalen, muziek- en kunstlokalen, wetenschaps- en computerlokalen, een theater voor podiumkunsten, een cafetaria en vele buitensportfaciliteiten. In augustus 2017 werd een nieuw centrum voor vroegschoolse educatie geopend \u2013 een speciaal gebouwde faciliteit voor kinderen van twee tot vijf jaar. In augustus 2019 werd het middelbare schoolgebouw uitgebreid om plaats te bieden aan een groter aantal leerlingen.<\/p>\n
