Op de Dresden International School (DIS) staan kinderen centraal bij alles wat we doen. Als internationale school voor alle dagen bieden we een holistisch curriculum gebaseerd op het internationaal erkende onderwijskader ontwikkeld door de International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) voor leerlingen van 1 tot 19 jaar. We zorgen voor een samenstelling van studenten en medewerkers die een stimulerende omgeving biedt voor het opdoen van interculturele ervaring en begrip, en die de ideale voorbereiding biedt op de wereldwijde levensstijl en professionele wereld van de toekomst.<\/p>\n
We zorgen ervoor dat de talenten van onze leerlingen zich volledig ontwikkelen in een complexe, uitdagende en voortdurend veranderende wereld. Om dit te realiseren, willen we een collaboratieve leercultuur ontwikkelen, gebaseerd op best practices die leerlingen in alle leerjaren inspireren, zodat ze individuele verantwoordelijkheid kunnen nemen om zich te ontwikkelen tot zelfstandige leerlingen, succes te behalen en hun prestaties te delen om nu en in de toekomst iets terug te kunnen doen. De school is gegroeid van dertien leerlingen in 1996 tot 500 leerlingen uit 55 landen vandaag de dag. Leerlingen krijgen onderwijs op twee locaties. Leerlingen in groep 5 en groep 1 tot en met 12 gaan naar school op de speciaal gebouwde schoolcampus in het historische centrum van Dresden. De kleuterschool (1-5 jaar) is gehuisvest in een prachtige villa op de kleuterschoolcampus in Dresden-Blasewitz.
\nDoor nauwe samenwerking tussen vakdocenten en kleine klassen bevorderen we de leerprestaties van al onze leerlingen. Onze naschoolse opvang (BSC) en het huiswerklab bieden een veilige en stimulerende omgeving voor alle leerlingen tot en met groep 5 om te werken en te spelen.<\/p>\n
Hoewel Engels de voertaal is op de school, hoeven studenten geen Engelse taalvaardigheden te hebben als ze onze programma's binnenkomen. Studenten met weinig tot geen kennis van het Engels volgen lessen Engels als extra taal (EAL) waar ze in kleine groepen en soms individueel worden ondersteund. Duits als extra taal wordt ook aangeboden om studenten te helpen de taal van de omgeving buiten de school te leren. Dit zorgt voor een soepele integratie in de samenleving van Dresden. Spaans wordt aangeboden als extra vreemde taal vanaf groep 6. Mandarijn wordt aangeboden als eerste taal vanaf klas 1. We onderwijzen Duits op het niveau van de thuistaal en stimuleren en ondersteunen ook studenten met een andere thuistaal om door te gaan met het leren van hun eerste taal. <\/p>\n
Omdat leren holistisch is, besteden we ook aandacht aan de sociaal-emotionele ontwikkeling van elke student. We zijn ons er terdege van bewust dat welzijn een intrinsiek onderdeel is van leren. Daarom bestaat het Studentenondersteuningsteam uit specialisten in verschillende vakgebieden die samenwerken om een effectief ondersteuningsnetwerk voor onze studenten te cre\u00ebren.<\/p>\n
Onze schoolgemeenschap bestaat uit zowel internationale als lokale gezinnen die willen dat hun kinderen in een Engelstalige onderwijsomgeving terechtkomen, tussen internationaal geori\u00ebnteerde leeftijdsgenoten, en die op zoek zijn naar een kleinschalig en zorgzaam alternatief voor lokale scholen. Met veel lokale gezinnen in de gemeenschap is onze school goed verbonden met de Dresdense samenleving, waardoor onze leerlingen volop mogelijkheden hebben om de lokale zakelijke, sociale, culturele en academische wereld te ervaren. De kwalificaties die aan het einde van klas 12 worden behaald (IB-diploma of middelbareschooldiploma) worden wereldwijd en in Duitsland erkend. \nThe school is divided into three sections: Preschool, Primary School and Secondary School. Co-curricular activities are spread across Primary and Secondary School.
\nThe IB program leads internationally-minded students to the universally recognized IB Diploma which gives them the choice of universities for further study and helps them to become informed participants in their communities around the world. In addition, students can receive the High School Diploma and the MYP certificate.
\nThe majority of our students leave DIS as bilingual or trilingual learners. On average 70% of our students graduate with a bilingual diploma. Along with mastering more than one language, students learn how to think critically, solve complex problems, and are prepared to engage in a globalized, ever-changing world. We are proud of our graduates, most of whom study abroad. However, there are also a large number of graduates who study at German universities.

Starting after the last school period until 18:00, DIS offers a daily supplementary educational and recreational program. Here, students can engage in a wide range of pursuits including debating, coding, dance, chess, various sports, and writing.
\nThe afternoon program provides students the opportunity to try out activities, spend time with friends, acquire new knowledge and perfect already existing abilities. Students also have the opportunity to take part in tournaments against other German international schools and students from local areas.
