Wij zijn een van de meest vooraanstaande onafhankelijke scholen in het Verenigd Koninkrijk voor jongens en meisjes van 3 tot 18 jaar, met een geschiedenis die bijna 500 jaar teruggaat. Onze waarden staan centraal in alles wat we doen. Hoewel de woorden van ons schoolmotto \u2013 'Deugd, Leren, Manieren' \u2013 al in 1622 geschreven zijn, zijn ze opmerkelijk tijdloos. Ze vormen de basis van ons hoofddoel: jongeren helpen hun talenten te ontdekken en te ontwikkelen met zowel zelfvertrouwen als nederigheid. Onze leerlingen zijn vriendelijk, ambitieus en streven ernaar een positieve bijdrage te leveren in het heden en de toekomst: onze rol is om hen te helpen hun successen te behalen \u2013 in welke vorm dan ook \u2013 zonder enig gevoel van recht. Om dit te bereiken, moeten we onze leerlingen voorbereiden op een snelle en voortdurend veranderende wereld. Ze zullen problemen moeten oplossen waar we nog geen weet van hebben (naast de problemen die we wel kennen) en velen zullen banen aannemen die nog niet bestaan. Onze leerlingen nemen actief deel aan deze reis en onderscheiden zich als ondernemende jongeren die er altijd naar streven de beste versie van zichzelf te zijn. Ze blinken uit op veel gebieden: academisch, in de beeldende en uitvoerende kunsten en in de sport.
\nIn een tijdperk van directe bevrediging en directe beloningen begrijpen onze leerlingen de waarde van doorzettingsvermogen en het feit dat geduld een schone zaak is. Ze zijn bereid om beheerste risico's te nemen en vieren hun eigen successen en die van hun klasgenoten met evenveel enthousiasme, terwijl ze de moed hebben om te falen en van hun fouten te leren. We cultiveren deze aanpak door het gedrag te modelleren dat we onze leerlingen willen helpen ontwikkelen, en door met oprechte passie en intelligentie les te geven in een stimulerende omgeving. De gevolgen van deze cultuur van continu leren zijn onze uitstekende staat van dienst wat betreft examenresultaten en verdere successen van onze leerlingen, maar we zijn een school die veel meer biedt dan zulke meetbare en eindige resultaten: veel scholen beloven de ontwikkeling van de hele persoon, maar weinigen kunnen beweren dat ze dat zo goed doen als Brentwood.<\/p>\n
We zijn ook een dag- en kostschool met een verschil: onze jongens en meisjes krijgen apart les tot en met de zesde klas. A Brentwood education presents learning as a lifelong pleasure, with many rewards for the curious and the diligent. Many of our pupils leave a trail of As and A*s in their wake, but all our pupils leave Brentwood understanding that acquiring knowledge is only part of what it means to learn. Learning at Brentwood is purposeful; it prepares pupils to make a positive contribution in whatever path they take.<\/p>
From 11+ until the Sixth Form, boys and girls are taught separately. In the Sixth Form, classes are mixed to prepare young men and women for the world beyond school. We encourage our pupils to apply what they learn across subject areas: a lesson about number sequencing in Mathematics could well be applied to composing a score in Music lessons. The ability to think in a flexible way means that Brentwood pupils are always able to turn their hands to any task.<\/p>\n
Our teaching staff present academic subjects in ways that relate them to the real world; we promote practical as well as intellectual engagement. Exceptional facilities enable us to give all our pupils the chance to participate in engaging practical lessons and there are a huge number of trips and visits, from the battlefields of Ypres and the volcanic splendour of Iceland to the illuminated streets of Tokyo and the picturesque scenery of Snowdonia.<\/p>\n
We believe in developing broad horizons, so we keep a wide subject base for as long as possible. At Sixth Form level, we have virtually no restrictions on subject combinations.
