St George's British International School is een inclusieve, niet-selectieve school en een van de toonaangevende scholen met een Brits en IB-curriculum op continentaal Europa. De school biedt een breed en streng academisch programma, een scala aan buitenschoolse activiteiten en een sterk pastoraal systeem dat alle facetten van de persoonlijkheid van elke leerling ontwikkelt, zodat ze hun plaats in de wereld kunnen innemen als zelfverzekerde, zorgzame en ambitieuze individuen. De hoofdcampus, opgericht in 1958 ten behoeve van de expats en de internationale gemeenschap van Rome, beslaat een terrein van 5,6 hectare in het noorden van de stad, met een extra campus voor de Junior School vlakbij het Vaticaan in het centrum van Rome. De meeste docenten van St George's zijn Brits, met een klein aantal docenten afkomstig uit andere Engelstalige landen, waaronder de VS. Ze zijn allemaal zeer ervaren en hebben eerder lesgegeven op scholen in het Verenigd Koninkrijk of internationaal. Ze hebben allemaal een universitaire graad, velen een hogere graad en allemaal een postdoctorale onderwijsbevoegdheid.<\/p>\n
De leerlingen van St. George's vertegenwoordigen 92 verschillende nationaliteiten. Een groot aantal gezinnen heeft banden met de VN en de diplomatieke gemeenschap. De jaarlijkse afstudeerklas bestaat doorgaans uit 75 leerlingen. De gemiddelde klasgrootte voor leerlingen in het IB Diploma Programme is 14.<\/p>\n
Hoewel de school een sterk Brits curriculum en een sterke Britse traditie volgt, met Engels als voertaal, is ze in veel opzichten echt internationaal. Culturele diversiteit staat centraal in de schoolfilosofie en het toelatingsbeleid. Hoewel er in verschillende stadia van het curriculum een uitgebreid aanbod aan kern- en keuzevakken wordt aangeboden, vormen wiskunde, exacte vakken, Engels en vreemde talen altijd de kern van het curriculum van elke leerling.<\/p>\n
Een uitgebreid buitenschools programma met meer dan 200 verschillende clubs en activiteiten stelt leerlingen in staat om deel te nemen aan een breed scala aan mogelijkheden buiten het curriculum. Er zijn talloze clubs voor creatieve en podiumkunsten. Sportteams omvatten rugby, voetbal, basketbal, hockey, volleybal, atletiek en tennis. Andere clubs zijn onder andere Model United Nations, Filosofie, Programmeren, Design, Milieubewustzijn, LGBTQIA+ en de Studentenraad.
