ISR International School on the Rhine offers international education from kindergarten through Grade 12 for families in the D\u00fcsseldorf, Neuss and Meerbusch region. Founded in 2003, ISR welcomes around 1,200 students from 60 different nationalities. English is the main language of instruction, with German taught as a compulsory core subject.<\/p>\n
Our Locations
\nOur main campus in Neuss, near D\u00fcsseldorf, provides the complete educational pathway from kindergarten through Grade 12. The spacious 150,000 m\u00b2 campus near the Neuss city forest combines academic facilities, sports areas and outdoor learning spaces within an all-day school concept.<\/p>\n
ISR also operates an international kindergarten in D\u00fcsseldorf-Niederkassel for children from the age of three and a German-speaking kindergarten with a bilingual program in Meerbusch-B\u00fcderich for children from the age of one.<\/p>\n
New ISR Elementary School D\u00fcsseldorf \u2013 Opening in August 2027
\nIn August 2027, ISR will open its new Elementary School in D\u00fcsseldorf-Oberkassel for students in Grades 1\u20136. Located in a historic school building, the new campus will offer a structured international curriculum, individual academic support and a multilingual learning environment. Planned facilities include smaller classrooms, a modern sports hall, a library, an auditorium, newly designed playgrounds and outdoor learning spaces. Applications are already open. Families can apply throughout the year, subject to availability.<\/p>\n

\nISR follows a Cambridge-based academic pathway, preparing students for Cambridge IGCSE examinations and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12. English-language instruction and compulsory German lessons support both international and local families.<\/p>\n

\nFrom Grade 8, our dedicated University and Career Counseling Team supports students and families with subject selection, career interests, university applications and long-term academic planning. ISR offers an international, college-preparatory curriculum based on the Cambridge International Curriculum, designed to prepare students for leading universities in Germany and around the world. English is the main language of instruction, while German is taught as a compulsory core subject. From Grade 6 onwards, students also begin studying a third language, choosing from French, Spanish, Japanese or Chinese.
\nIn Grades 9 and 10, students are prepared for internationally recognized external examinations, including the Cambridge IGCSE \u2013 International General Certificate of Secondary Education. Depending on their language pathway, students may also work towards qualifications such as DELE \u2013 Diplomas de Espa\u00f1ol como Lengua Extranjera and DELF \u2013 Dipl\u00f4me d\u2019\u00c9tudes en Langue Fran\u00e7aise.
\nIn Grades 11 and 12, ISR offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), providing students with a globally recognized qualification and a strong academic foundation for university study. ISR continues to expand its language offering within the IB: Turkish is now available as part of the IB program, and Chinese B is planned to be offered from 2028.
\nISR graduates consistently achieve strong IB results and progress to highly regarded universities in Germany and across the world. Our students have received offers from institutions such as the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, London School of Economics, RWTH Aachen, TU Munich, Cornell University, Princeton University and the University of California, Berkeley.
\nISR also has a strong track record of preparing students for university study in Germany. Students who meet the relevant German IB subject and examination requirements can obtain recognition equivalent to the Allgemeine Hochschulreife, enabling them to apply to German universities. In addition, ISR sports teams regularly participate in tournaments in the region and represent ISR locally!
\nMusically inclined children will appreciate the high-quality music program and talented and dedicated teaching staff. We have a wide variety of instruments available for our students to use. In addition, private music lessons are offered in cooperation with a local\u00a0music school. Children are able to showcase their talents to the ISR community at two major concerts per year and other performances.
\nArtistically minded children have a lot of fun in our art program. Here they can experiment with various artistic forms, colors, and techniques.
