Presenters

Mr. Myles D’Arielle. Secondary Principal / IB MYP Coordinator

Mr. D’Airelle was born in Leeds in the United Kingdom and has been teaching internationally since 1998 in Indonesia, Singapore, Ukraine, and Germany. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree and Master’s degree at Aberdeen University and holds a second Master’s degree in Education from Framingham University. Mr. D’Airelle has worked across the whole IB continuum, having been a PYP, MYP and Diploma teacher, and has experienced first hand how students grow in a hands-on, inquiry-based learning community. Having been an Environments Leader for the MYP, Mr. D’Airelle has a deep commitment to sustainability and loves to lead students as they explore the natural world around them

Mr. Stewart Paterson, Career-related Programme Coordinator 

Mr. Stewart Paterson has been at WISS for five years. He is currently the Career-related Programme Coordinator at the Western International School of Shanghai (WISS). He started his career as a Physical Education Teacher in his home country of Scotland back in 2013. He has been involved with the IBCP since he moved to Shanghai in 2017.

Mr. Paterson is an educator who is deeply passionate about creating pathways of learning that meet the needs of the school community. The IBCP has given him the perfect platform and structure to do this, and he is excited about the opportunities the IBCP can offer to students around the world.

Ms. Edwige Singleton, Secondary Deputy Principal / Head of Academics / IB DP Coordinator

Ms. Singleton has been at WISS for 4 years. She is currently our Diploma Coordinator and Secondary Deputy Principal for Academics. Ms Singleton teaches English and French as well as Theory of Knowledge within the Diploma Programme. She is also an active member of the IB Educator Network within China and beyond.

Ms. Inga Bela, Primary IB PYP Coordinator

Ms. Inga Bela has been living and teaching internationally for over 20 years. German-born Russian citizen, she now considers Asia her home. Inga holds a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Leicester University and PGCE from University of Sunderland, UK. Starting her educational career as a primary teacher, she also taught Drama, EAL and has been serving the IB community as a workshop leader and school visitor for Asia Pacific region. Inga passionately believes in inquiry-based, student-centered learning which equips students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to act in meaningful ways and allows them to become future leaders of the global community.

Ms. Lisa Kane, Early Years, IB PYP Coordinator 

Ms. Lisa Kane has been an Early Years educator from the year 2001, after gaining qualification in her home country of Scotland. Since then she has worked with a range of learners, before continuing her journey in Shanghai from 2010.

As the Early Years PYP Coordinator at WISS, she works with WISS Early Years team to ensure that we centre the learning around our students, drawing from the best pedagogical practices from around the world. She continues her own development through collaboration with other IB and Early Years professionals in both local and global communities, keeping up-to-date with recent research and advancement in early years development and education.
