Description

SSB is a distinguished day and boarding school founded in 1973. SSB provides students with a comprehensive academic and extracurricular program designed to cater for all needs of the 21st century global citizen.

After more than 30 years with the IB Programme here at SSB, it’s a pleasure to see how well it has served our school and its students and how well it fits in with our school’s approach to learning. Through the years many students have graduated from SSB with excellent IB Diploma results and it has been rewarding to follow their success at universities and later in their professional careers.

Our youngest students (ages 2 – 5 years old) attend our international Preschool where we have language specific groups. Our Compulsory and Upper Secondary are divided into national programmes – Swedish, Danish and Finnish. At Upper Secondary, we offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for all nationalities.

As a student at SSB you will join an ambitious international student body of 300 students. We connect students building an international network of intellectual and cultural wealth. Social tolerance and academic awareness give purpose to students in all aspects of school and the wider community.
Our values are founded on respect and responsibility. We challenge and motivate each individual student to become responsible and engaged in their own learning. We respect the individuality and ambitions of each single student and nurture them to become successful leaders of tomorrow.
Our goal is to inspire our students to achieve academic excellence and enable them to enter renowned universities both at home and abroad. Becoming a student at SSB, means being part of a unique community where each individual student will develop and fulfill their own potential.

Our Boarding School:
Every year, a group of young people get the chance to be boarding students at the SSB for one, two or the full three years of Upper Secondary.
A year of schooling in the heart of Europe is, for most of them, a life-changing experience, and their stay at our 19th century chateau on the school premises guarantees that.
Our ambition is to offer you a place which is harmonious and secure. Taking part in our academic and cultural programmes provides the students with a broader view of Europe and the international community.

Our campus offers students an inspirational environment set in the heart of the country side yet close to many facilities. Waterloo is only 15 km south of Brussels. It is easy to take the local train to the city to find anything a young heart desires: shops, culture, cinemas, restaurants, parks and cafés – Brussels has got it all! Most of these things can also be found in Waterloo within walking distance from the Chateau.

Our Pastoral Programmes:
Every student has a tutor who is also their teacher for an academic course. This advocate meets with the student at least once a week to follow up on their studies and to discuss anything concerning school.
It is the tutor’s responsibility, together with the student and parents, to help set goals and monitor the student’s academic and social development. The tutor is in constant contact with the student and their parents, and arranges formal development discussions once every term. Tutor and Tutee workshops are also offered throughout the school year.

At SSB, we also believe that the best possible support extends beyond the school hours, and therefore, we always seek to develop strong, open relationships with parents. This relationship starts at admission. Upon admission, students and parents are asked to provide the school with all relevant information regarding the student’s learning style and needs.

The academic and social support for all students at SSB is monitored by the Student Care team. The team meets every week to ensure active, continual, and systematic follow-up. To support classroom learning, we have special needs teachers who work actively with classroom instruction, peer coaching, development and assessment.
