Lincoln Community School is an American international school located in Accra, Ghana. We are a community-oriented school with international-standard facilities offering an engaging, inquiry-based curriculum for pre-kindergarten through Grade 12. Our diverse community includes exceptional students and experienced faculty and administrators from around the world. We are a full International Baccalaureate certified World School, the only such institution in West Africa. A West African Education At Lincoln Community School, we emphasize curricular and extracurricular activities that help maximize the benefits of living and learning in West Africa. As a premier American international school located in Ghana, LCS is uniquely positioned to engage our students in beyond-school learning that prepares them to live and work in a dynamically interconnected and international world. And we start them young. As early as preschool, curriculum activities use local examples to teach fundamental academic concepts. Students begin their exploration of West Africa by diving into the uniquely Ghanaian environment just outside their classroom. They might analyze the diversity of organisms in a square meter of playground dirt, discover how the fig tree by the entrance produces fruit, or encounter local culture through a model village set up right on campus. Learning Beyond the Walls Moving beyond the school walls, field trips extend the classroom environment to embrace the multitude of learning opportunities that Ghana offers. Students engage the world of international trade through visits to the countryÍs main port, forge personal connections with history while wandering the slave castles of Cape Coast, and learn about art and the environment by creating sculptures out of recycled plastic with a local artist. Through off-campus activities, LCS teachers lead young minds in intentionally exploring the history and culture of Ghana while also discovering the benefits and the challenges of life in this coastal West African nation. Local Service, Local Connections LCS also inspires students to give back to the local community through a variety of service projects. Weekly Service Wednesdays challenge pupils to ñGet On Da Busî and leave campus for a visit to an Accra orphanage, special needs school, AIDS project, primate center, or environmental site. Participants plant trees, facilitate environmental and AIDS education programs, teach step dancing to physically disabled children, and do art projects with street kids. In addition, LCS is proud of a special partnership between the school and the World Reader organization that puts its secondary students on the cutting edge of international literacy work. Through this program, Lincoln teenagers deliver Kindle e-book devices into the hands of eager readers at local elementary schools, then stick around to help make sure the e-books get read. From preschool through twelfth grade, whether our students are Ghanaian by birth or living in Accra for two or three years, Lincoln Community School helps each child establish a unique connection to the diverse places and rich cultural traditions of this vibrant city and nation.
