BSB is the first International School in Belgium to have its own swimming pool

The-British-School-of-Brussels-logoAfter two years of construction work and €25 million worth of investment, the British School of Brussels (BSB) has now completed and opened their new sports centre. The sports centre is named after Jacques Rogge, a Belgian who served as the eighth president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) between 2001 and 2011 and himself an Olympic athlete.

The launch of the Jacques Rogge Sports Centre was held at BSB in October 2016 with over two hundred members of staff, students, parents, governors and trustees and the local community in attendance, as well as Jacques Rogge himself presiding over the opening.

Opening of the sports centre:

Why was the sports centre built?

The British School of Brussels, established on its present site in 1970, delivers an international education to children aged 1-18 years of age.

With 1350 students at the school, from 70 different nations, the school’s objective is to continually adapt and evolve and the school’s vision has long been to create a world class centre of sporting excellence. The new Jacques Rogge Sports Centre not only delivers the first indoor swimming pool in Belgium on an international school campus, but a state-of-the-art sports facility including a sports hall, gymnasium, dance studio and fitness room, which meets the school’s core aspirations and operational objectives.

Take a look inside the sports centre:

The new sports centre not only delivers on the educational front, it was also built with the environment and sustainability in mind. The centre has been awarded an excellent rating from BREEAM, the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for buildings, assessing elements such as ventilation, light, security and reusable energy. This certification is something which BSB are incredibly proud to have against the new sports centre.

What next for the British School of Brussels?

With the new sports centre now complete, the focus is now on the next stage of development at the school. Forthcoming plans include the development of outdoor areas, as well as a new Primary School building.
